The Wisconsin legislature is attempting to sell the recent proposal for redistricting as a version of the “Iowa Model.”
In contrast to State Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ contention that Gov. Tony Evers and his colleagues are rejecting the “very plan they originally endorsed,” the governor is not allowing the people of Wisconsin to be tricked once again by Mr. Vos and his colleagues into a plan that will allow the legislature to maintain an extremely gerrymandered districting.
Vos and crew’s proposal allows the legislature to reject the “independent, nonpartisan redistricting commission” proposal with a simple majority (and our severely gerrymandered legislature currently has far greater than a simple majority).
With their current proposal, after two tries at redistricting by the commission (and certain rejection by the legislature of anything less gerrymandered), the legislature reassumes the right to form the maps and we would be back where we started, or worse!

So please know that the proposal by Mr. Vos and colleagues is not the same proposal previously made by the governor!
The “Iowa Model” proposed by Evers requires a 75% majority to overturn the nonpartisan commission proposal — much more than a small difference from what Mr. Vos suggests.
Our gerrymandered legislature is ruining what once was a wonderfully fair state that had equitable politics. Let’s use the true Iowa Model to return to that state.
